William James Knowles (1895-1970)

William is the older brother of Thomas Cameron Knowles. He immigrated to Canada in June of 1913 aboard the SS Letitia along with his Mother, sister Martha and brother Grant. William declared himself to be a spring maker upon arriving in Canada but at Hedley, BC he worked in the Power Plant as a Fireman.

William  enlisted with the BC Regiment, 2nd Depot Battalion in Victoria in June of 1918. When he returned to Hedley he continued to be employed at the Mine as a Millman. He and his wife Doris moved to Victoria in the 1950’s where he was employed as a Stationary Engineer with BC Forest Products until his retirement in 1965.

William Knowles died in Victoria in September of 1970. Doris survived him until 1980.
