Pte. John L. “Jack” Lorenzetto (1894-1918)

Jack was born in the Snaza’ist area of what is now Hedley, the eldest of 16 children of Peter & Edith (Barrington Price) Lorenzetto. His Lorenzetto wine merchant grandfather came to Canada to follow the gold rush and his Barrington-Price grandfather established the Grist Mill and store at Keremeos. In 1918 Jack listed himself as a Rancher, working on his fathers ranch just 11 km southeast of Hedley.

Jack was an avid sportsman, participating in foot races, horse races, boxing matches and other local competitions. Like others in the community, Jack participated in raising money to make things easier on the boys overseas before being conscripted in February of 1918.
