Awarded to Warrant Officers, non-commissioned officers and men for individual or associated acts of bravery on the recommendation of a Commander-in-Chief in the field.

Tpr. Arthur Coles, Military Medal (1884-1916)

Arthur and his brother Edward emigrated to Canada in 1909. In 1911 he is listed as working with a field survey crew (the enlistment papers for Arthur Coles show him to be a railway surveyor). Both young men enlisted in 1915 - Arthur with the 2nd Mounted Rifles and his brother Edward with the Lord Strathcona Horse.

Arthur supported the Hedley Patriotic Fund and other activities in Hedley.
