Preserving the History of Keremeos, Honouring Those Who Served
— 1946
A Welcome Home to Remember
On February 25, 1946, the people of Keremeos gathered at Victory Hall to warmly welcome home local service men and women returning from war. The evening brought together families and neighbours in a shared meal prepared by the community, filled with gratitude, pride, and remembrance.
As noted in the Penticton Herald, the program included music, speeches, and a tribute led by Major John Aikins, honouring both those who returned and those who did not.
More than a dinner, it was a moment of unity, when Keremeos stood together to remember, honour, and carry forward the legacy of those who served.

The Spirit of Remembrance
In Keremeos and across the South Similkameen, remembrance lives on in the quiet moments when the community gathers together.
At the cenotaph, residents stand in reflection, honouring those who gave their lives in service. The engraved names of the fallen, alongside the Honour Roll established by the people of the district, remain as enduring reminders of sacrifice and duty.
Beneath the words “Lest We Forget,” remembrance becomes more than memory—it is a shared commitment, carried forward by each generation.
Remembrance in Our Community
Each year, Keremeos comes together to honour those who served through Remembrance Day ceremonies. Despite the cold, hundreds of community members gather at the cenotaph, with parades and tributes that reflect a shared commitment to remembrance, respect, and unity.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old. Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them.

Honour Roll
The Honour Roll of Keremeos District stands as a lasting tribute to the men and women who served their country during times of war. Established by the community, it preserves the names of those who answered the call, and those who gave their lives for King and country.
